Settle-Carlisle Railway welcomes Appleby Primary School as students take their first trip on the train
For many of the children, this was their first time travelling on a train, and to make the occasion special, we had Ken and Anthony from the Friends of the Settle Carlisle Line give an on-train guide of the line. Once at Settle Station, they had a tour of the Station, the Water Tower and even got to have a go in the restored Signal Box, which is open to the public on Saturday’s.
“It’s been great to welcome Appleby Primary School to the Settle-Carlisle Railway” says Katie Chesworth, Projects and Social Media Manager. “The children were incredibly excited and it was brilliant to see the enthusiasm in their questions and in their artwork. The project is going to be a great way to encourage more young people and families to the line, and celebrate the Settle-Carlisle Railway”.
The Appleby Art Project has been funded by Community Rail Network and Northern, and will see art boards, created by Year for with the help of local artist Karen Babyan, at Appleby Station. The artwork will be inspired by the history and landscape of the line and celebrate the stories of the people and places the line serves.
Artwork will be displayed at Appleby Station from this Spring, and latest updates on the project can be found on the Settle-Carlisle website.
