Northern is making big improvements and working hard to make our stations, trains and communities more accessible based on valuable passenger feedback. The Accessibility Hub provides information on planning and booking ahead with Northern’s Passenger Assist team.

Leeds, Skipton, Settle, Appleby, and Carlisle are all staffed stations where you can find the best advice about fares, travel and your journey. Ticket vending machines are also available at these stations for passengers wishing to purchase or collect tickets outside of ticket office opening hours.

If you have purchased a ticket online, you can collect your ticket by taking details to the booking office at any manned station, or from a ticket vending machine (available at selected stations along the route only).

If you have purchased a ticket through an online app, you must ensure the ticket has been downloaded to your device prior to starting your train. You will be required to show your e-ticket at ticket gates and the conductor on the train.

The Settle-Carlisle line is part of the national rail network with diesel train services (run by Northern Trains) operating between Leeds and Carlisle, via Settle and Appleby, daily (except Christmas Day and Boxing Day).

The Leeds-Settle-Carlisle and Leeds-Bentham-Lancaster/Morecambe routes are not exclusively heritage railways.

Both rail lines are part of the main UK rail network, with train services running in each direction several times a day.

The rail line plays an integral part in transporting residents and visitors to and from the Yorkshire Dales, Lancashire, Cumbria and beyond. The Leeds-Settle-Carlisle rail line provides connections for travel from Carlisle to/from Scotland and to London from both Carlisle and Leeds.
