Settle Carlisle CRP welcomes West Coast mainline passengers
Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company Community Rail Partnership are installing banners at every train station along the 72 miles of the scenic railway to welcome new passengers on the line.
As West Coast Mainline trains are diverted onto the former Midland Railway line in January, as the Clifton railway bridge over the M6 is replaced, many new passengers will be travelling through the North Yorkshire Dales and Cumbrian countryside.
The Settle Carlisle Railway has been recognised in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2025, making it among the top 10 per cent of listings around the world. The line has also been named among the top 10 more scenic routes in Europe by travel publishers Lonely Planet.
To welcome and promote the line to West Coast Mainline passengers, the Community Rail Partnership are installing the banners that depict the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct. The banners also include the QR code for the CRP’s new Traxplorer App, a free, real-time guide to what you can see and visit along the line.
Chair of the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, Pete Myers, said: “Many people will be travelling along our line for the first time, as the West Coast Mainline diverts onto our line. This is an opportunity to promote the Settle Carlisle Railway, which celebrates 150 years of passenger services, and provides a gateway to the North Yorkshire Dales, Cumbria’s Eden Valley and the Lake District.
“We hope travellers on the diverted West Coast Mainline, as well as our passengers using the Northern daily service along the line, will enjoy discovering more about the line via our Traxplorer app.”
