Groups can explore the North for less with up to 75% off Northern rail travel

Community groups, schools, walking clubs, voluntary organisations and groups of friends are being encouraged to plan an autumn or winter adventure by rail, with up to 75% off group travel with Northern.

Northern’s Group Travel Autumn & Winter Sale is now live, offering substantial savings for groups of 10 or more people travelling together across the Northern network.

The sale is an opportunity for groups to leave the car or coach behind and enjoy a day out by train – whether that’s a school or educational visit, a walking trip, a community outing, Christmas shopping, a festive get-together or simply discovering somewhere new.

The offer is available to book until 23 October 2026, for journeys taking place between 28 September and 31 December 2026, excluding the October half-term period from 26–30 October.

Discounts of up to 75% are available, subject to availability, with savings calculated against buying 10 standard/cheap day return tickets. Group bookings are available for 10 or more passengers travelling on Northern services. Greater savings are generally available where there is more capacity, making off-peak journeys particularly worth considering.

For communities along the Settle-Carlisle Railway, the offer provides another reason to organise a group day out and explore destinations along the line and across Northern’s wider network.

From a day exploring Carlisle or Leeds to a walking trip in the Yorkshire Dales, a visit to one of the communities along the Settle-Carlisle line or a festive day out in the run-up to Christmas, groups can use the railway to make the journey part of the experience.

Northern’s network serves more than 500 destinations across the North, opening up opportunities for educational, leisure and community trips without the need to organise individual car journeys.

How to book

The discounted group tickets cannot be purchased through the usual ticket-buying channels.

Groups should submit an enquiry through Northern’s dedicated Group Travel webpage. The Group Travel team will then provide a personalised quote and, once this has been accepted, a secure online payment link to complete the booking.

Customers should book at least seven days before travelling, and discounted tickets are subject to availability.
