An Iconic Journey

The Settle-Carlisle line is part of the national rail network with diesel train services (run by Northern Trains) operating between Leeds and Carlisle, via Settle and Appleby, daily (except Christmas Day and Boxing Day).

Unlike many think, the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle and Leeds-Bentham-Lancaster/Morecambe routes are not exclusively heritage railways. Learn more about steam excursions here.

Both rail lines are part of the main UK rail network with train services running in each direction, several times a day.  For timetables, tickets and more, click here.

The rail line plays an integral part in transporting residents and visitors to and from the Yorkshire Dales, Lancashire, Cumbria and beyond. The Leeds-Settle-Carlisle rail line provides very useful connections for travel from Carlisle to/from Scotland and to London from both Carlisle and Leeds.
