Engineering Works: Late May Bank Holiday Weekend

The Late May Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday 29th May until Monday 31st May, sees Network Rail undertake major upgrades to the railway network which affects both Northern and other train operator’s services, especially if your journeys involve travelling in the Carlisle, Warrington, and Leeds areas.

Please note if your service or route is not listed, then there are no changes to services, but evening journeys could still be affected.


Amended Timetables

N7 Blackpool North to Carlisle (DalesRail).  Sunday 30th May 2021

N7 Leeds to Carlisle, Leeds to Morecambe/ Heysham Port.  Sunday 30th May 2021


Changes to Train Services on Sunday 30th May 2021:

Carlisle Station

Network Rail are undertaking works in the Carlisle station area, which includes the closure of platforms 5 and 6.

Carlisle to Settle and Leeds

Rail replacement buses will run between Carlisle and Appleby with trains running between Appleby, Settle and Skipton.

Due to track works in Leeds, there will be no direct service between the Settle and Carlisle route and Leeds.

Leeds and Skipton

Train services between Leeds and Skipton will not call at Shipley all day.

Leeds and Bradford Forster Square

Rail replacement buses run between Leeds and Kirkstall Forge. Train services will run between Kirkstall Forge and Bradford Forster Square.

Leeds to Morecambe / Settle – Carlisle

Train services on these routes will run between Skipton and Morecambe / Appleby.

On the Settle to Carlisle line, rail replacement buses will also run between Appleby and Carlisle.

Rail Replacement 

Rail replacement bus stop locations can be found on the ‘Useful Information Posters’ at stations.

Please note rail replacement buses are unable to carry:

  • Heavy luggage
  • Non-folding bicycles, prams, or scooters
  • Animals (other than registered assistance dogs).

Northern plan to run accessible buses on our rail replacement services.  Northern have provided more information here on accessible buses for planned engineering works.

Passenger Assist

Northerns Passenger Assist service is available from all affected stations for customers requiring mobility assistance.

Where possible, Northern recommend booking assistance in advance by calling 0800 138 5560 (Text Relay 18001 0800 138 5560), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or online here.

  • buy your ticket online or pay by contactless
  • respect the social distancing rules
  • follow the instructions at stations and of staff
  • wear a face covering, unless you have a medical exception or a disability that prevents you from doing so
  • take your face covering and litter with you
  • wash your hands before and after your journey
  • avoid rush hour and travel at quieter periods where possible
  • allow extra time for your journey
