An Update from The Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company…

As a business we understand our people are our greatest asset and we intend to protect them as best we can and reduce risk to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

We, The Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company, can assure you that we are adhering to Government advice as and when it is released. We will be reviewing policies and procedures on a daily basis as and when more information is made available to us. We are taking all necessary precautions, following Government guidelines, to ensure the safety of both our customers and staff.

We feel we need to put the following contingencies in place and have therefore made the following decisions which are effective from Wednesday 18th March 2020.

  • The on-train Refreshment Trolley Service will be suspended on timetabled rail services until further notice.
  • All Group Travel bookings are postponed, and our Sales Team will be contacting those affected as soon as possible. No further Group Travel bookings will be taken until further notice.

An Update from Northern Trains…

Northern Trains have published information explaining the measures they are taking to deal with the effects of the current global and national health situation regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

From Northern Trains website:

We have a robust plan in place for cleaning our trains. Trains are cleared of litter etc throughout the day and all surfaces are cleaned daily.

On-board all of our trains, and at stations where facilities exist, there is soap and hot water available in our toilets for customers to follow NHS advice to wash their hands for 20 seconds. If you come across a toilet with no soap, please alert a member of staff immediately.

Buying tickets to travel 

 From Thursday 19th March we have suspended the selling of tickets on board trains. 

Customers will still require a ticket to travel and you should buy before you board from stations, ticket machines, and online via the web (www.northernrailway.co.uk) or our mobile app. 

Ticket Offices: Our ticket offices remain open so, if you’re starting your journey from a staffed station during opening hours, our helpful staff will be ready to sell you the ticket you need. 

Ticket Vending Machines: Most of our stations now have Ticket Vending Machines which sell tickets to all locations in the UK. 

Conductors will be available to help customers as needed.

Amended Timetables to Northern Trains routes …

From Friday 20th March, there will be cancellations on several routes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is very important that you check your travel plans before you start you journey.

Routes impacted include the Leeds-Bentham-Lancaster/Morecambe rail line. To view the full list of routes affected, click here.
