From engineering works to amended Christmas and New Year services across the rail network, travel plans can get a little complicated at this time of year. Read on for a host of website links and advice to help you navigate the annual slow down for the festive period.

Christmas & New Year Travel…

On Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24th December) and New Years Eve (Tuesday 31st December), from 19:00 onwards train services will start to be withdrawn, and after 21:00 most services will not run across all Northern routes.

No train services run on Christmas Day (Wednesday 25 December) and only a very limited number of services will be running on some routes on Boxing Day (Thursday 26 December).

On New Year’s Day (Wednesday 1st January), a near to normal service is expected to run.

Please check before you travel to ensure you can complete your journey.

There will be engineering work on the Settle-Carlisle and Morecambe lines between 27-30 December meaning some trains will start or finish at Skipton. For information on Engineering Works taking place across the Northern service area, click here.
